Study in Europe – where world-class education meets residency routes
Germany’s public universities charge essentially zero tuition. France’s public Masters are 2,770 euro per year for non-EU students. Ireland offers a 24-month post-study Stay Back and a Critical Skills route to residency. Over 6,000 English-taught Masters and PhD programmes across Europe. The EU Blue Card (50,700 euro 2026 threshold, 45,934.20 euro reduced for graduates) gives qualified Masters graduates access to 27 EU countries. Sarem Education is India’s Europe-focused consultancy — alumni-led, with on-the-ground presence in Ireland through co-founder Prem (DCU and NCI graduate, Irish citizen, 12+ years in Europe).

8 reasons Indian students are choosing Europe over UK, USA, Canada, Australia
Europe’s 2026–27 admissions cycle is the most favourable in a decade for Indian students. Tuition-free public universities in Germany. 2,770 euro per year at French public universities. Ireland’s 24-month Stay Back feeding directly into the Critical Skills Employment Permit. Revised EU Blue Card thresholds that specifically accommodate recent graduates. English-taught programmes in every major European country. Below is what actually matters — drawn from official government and university sources.
Germany’s public universities charge no tuition plus a 150–350 euro semester contribution. French public universities charge approximately 2,770 euro per year for non-EU Masters (Campus France 2026). Austria 726 euro per semester. Italy’s public universities 900–4,000 euro. Spain’s public universities 750–3,500 euro. Norway public universities charge no tuition. The UK Masters average 25,000–35,000 GBP per year; USA 30,000–60,000 USD.
No European language required. Ireland and the Netherlands are effectively fully English-taught at Masters level. Germany offers ~1,800 English Masters. France offers ~1,700, concentrated in Grandes Écoles and international programmes at Paris-Saclay, Sciences Po, HEC. Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway extensively English. Italy: Bocconi, Politecnico Milano, Sapienza. Spain: IE, ESADE, IESE. Free or subsidised local language courses widely offered after arrival.
Ireland 24-month Third Level Graduate Stay Back (irishimmigration.ie). France 24-month APS (Autorisation Provisoire de Séjour). Germany 18-month job-seeker visa. Netherlands 1-year Orientation Year. Austria 12 months. Finland 2 years. Sweden 1 year. Denmark 6 months. These are statutory rights under national law — not discretionary bonuses.
From 1 January 2026 the EU Blue Card standard threshold is 50,700 euro per year, with a reduced threshold of 45,934.20 euro for recent graduates (within 3 years of degree), shortage occupations, and IT specialists. Netherlands threshold 5,942 euro per month (4,754 euro for recent graduates). France 59,373 euro. Spain 40,077 euro (30,058 euro reduced). Path to permanent settlement in ~21 months with B1 local language.
QS Top-100 European universities include ETH Zurich, Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, UCL, LSE, Sorbonne, PSL, Paris-Saclay, TU Munich, LMU Munich, Edinburgh, TU Delft, KU Leuven, EPFL, and Trinity College Dublin. Grandes Écoles (HEC, INSEAD, ESSEC, École Polytechnique, Sciences Po) sit alongside leading business schools globally — at Masters fees substantially below comparable US programmes.
Erasmus Mundus (EU-wide), DAAD (Germany), Eiffel (France), Charpak (France–India), OeAD (Austria), Swedish Institute, Orange Knowledge (Netherlands), Government of Ireland IES, Italian MAECI, Spain MAEC-AECID, plus thousands of university-specific merit awards. Sarem’s 78 percent scholarship success rate reflects applying across multiple schemes, not relying on any single award.
A Schengen student visa permits free travel across 27 European countries — not just the country of study. EU Blue Card holders gain intra-EU mobility after 12 months in the first country. Schengen graduates who later secure permanent residence in one EU state can typically live and work across much of the Union. The UK, USA, Canada, Australia don’t match this.
European public healthcare, reliable public transport, strong labour protections, work-life balance, and student-friendly city infrastructure. Many cities (Munich, Dublin, Amsterdam, Paris, Stockholm, Copenhagen) consistently rank in global top-50 for student liveability. The social infrastructure that supports your study years also supports your early career.
Every major European country — picked for the student, not the commission
Sarem Education is a Europe education consultancy. We process applications across the continent and recommend based on what fits your profile, career goal, and budget. All figures verified for 2026–27 intake from Campus France, DAAD, Make-it-in-Germany.com, Nuffic, irishimmigration.ie, gov.ie, and individual university sites.

What you need to apply to a European Masters in 2026/27
Admission requirements vary by country but follow a broadly similar pattern across Europe: a recognised Bachelor’s degree, English or local language proficiency, a Statement of Purpose, academic references, and programme-specific documentation. Below is what typically clears Masters admission — and the country-specific extras that often surprise Indian applicants.
Student visa routes to Europe — Schengen + national visas
Most European countries except Ireland and the UK are Schengen states. You apply for a national long-stay (D-type) student visa at the relevant embassy or VFS centre in India. Ireland and the UK run separate student visa regimes. Sarem provides complete visa documentation support with a 100 percent visa success rate since 2018.
Applied at VFS Global India on behalf of INIS. Typical processing 4–8 weeks. Requires: Letter of Acceptance, tuition fee paid (50%+ or full depending on university), €10,000 equivalent financial proof, health insurance. Post-arrival: register at IRP within 90 days.
VLS-TS (Visa Long Séjour valant Titre de Séjour) for studies over 3 months. Applied via VFS after Campus France validation. Typical processing 2–4 weeks. Requires blocked account or guarantor showing ~€615 per month living. Must validate on OFII portal within 3 months of arrival.

Most Indian students are processed via the university acting as Recognised Sponsor — the university files with IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Service) directly. Faster processing (2–4 weeks typical) and higher approval rate. Requires financial proof ~€12,500 per year.
Applied via UKVI portal. Typical processing 3 weeks standard, 5 working days priority. Requires CAS from university, financial proof (£1,483 per month London / £1,136 elsewhere, 9 months), IHS health surcharge, ATAS certificate for certain STEM programmes.
Applied at Swedish Migration Agency. Typical processing 6–12 weeks. Requires: University acceptance, tuition fee paid in full, financial proof SEK 10,584 per month. Residence permit card collected at Swedish Embassy before travel.
After your Masters — statutory post-study work rights, by country
European post-study work rights are statutory — written into national immigration law — not discretionary university benefits. Below is what qualified Indian Masters graduates can expect in 2026 at each destination. Figures verified from official immigration authority sources (gov.ie, make-it-in-germany.com, immigration-en.gov.fr, nuffic, migrationsverket.se).

EU Blue Card 2026 — the pan-European route after your Masters
From 1 January 2026, the EU Blue Card scheme gives qualified non-EU graduates access to 27 EU countries through a single streamlined work and residency permit. The 2026 update specifically introduced a reduced salary threshold for recent graduates (within 3 years of degree) and shortage occupations.
Sources: Make-it-in-Germany (Federal Ministry of the Interior), Leiden International Centre (Netherlands), Boundless, Vertex Alliance (April 2026). EU Blue Card holders gain intra-EU mobility after 12 months, family reunification with reduced requirements, and a 21–27 month pathway to EU permanent settlement. Always verify thresholds at the official national immigration portal before application.
