Why Indian students choose Ireland for their Master’s degree
Ireland is not the loudest choice. It is the smartest one. Here is why an MSc from an Irish university is one of the best decisions an Indian student can make in 2026.
The most important number is one. A Master’s degree in Ireland takes one year โ the same Level 9 qualification that takes two years in the US, Canada, or Australia. That one year saves you โฌ10โ15 lakhs in tuition and living costs, and puts you into employment one full year earlier. For Indian students in their mid-twenties who need to balance ambition with pressure to settle, that compression is transformative.
After graduation, Ireland’s Third Level Graduate Scheme gives MSc holders 24 months to work freely โ any employer, any sector, no sponsorship required. You use this window to find the right permanent role and transition to a Critical Skills Employment Permit, which leads to permanent residency in just two years of employment. The entire route โ from student to PR โ is one of the clearest pathways available anywhere in Europe.
And there is no GRE. No GMAT for most programmes. No entrance exams beyond your existing degree and an English proficiency test. That removes one of the biggest barriers Indian students face when applying to the US โ and it means you can focus entirely on building a strong application rather than preparing for a separate standardised test.
Europe’s tech, pharma, and finance hub โ all in one small country
Google, Meta, Apple, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Salesforce โ all European HQs in Dublin. Pfizer, J&J, MSD, Boston Scientific, Abbott โ major operations in Cork and Limerick. 19 of the world’s top 20 pharma companies operate in Ireland. Indian MS graduates find employment across all these sectors faster than almost anywhere else in Europe.
1-Year Duration
Complete a full Level 9 MSc in just one year. Same qualification as a 2-year US Master’s โ in half the time, at a fraction of the cost.
2-Year Post-Study Work
Stamp 1G gives you 24 months to work freely after graduation โ any employer, no sponsorship needed.
No GRE Required
Most Irish universities don’t ask for GRE or GMAT. IELTS 6.0โ6.5, a strong degree, and a good SOP are what matter.

What does an MS in Ireland actually cost?
Verified 2025/26 non-EU fees across all institutions. Ireland is not free like Germany, but it is substantially cheaper than the US or UK โ and the 1-year format changes the real comparison entirely.
Ireland’s national minimum wage rose to โฌ14.15 per hour from 1 January 2026 โ the second-highest in Europe, after Luxembourg. As a Stamp 2 student you can work 20 hours/week during term and 40 hours/week during holidays.
MS in Ireland requirements for Indian students
No GRE. No entrance exams. Ireland judges your application on your existing degree, your English score, and your Statement of Purpose โ and that’s it for most programmes.
Tell Sarem your grades, your IELTS score, and your target programme. We’ll tell you honestly which universities you have a realistic chance at โ and start your application process free of charge.
Scholarships that pay your MS tuition
UCD Global Excellence can waive 50โ100% of tuition. GOI-IES covers full tuition plus โฌ10,000 in living costs. Sarem applies for every scholarship alongside your admission โ no extra step, no extra cost.
78% of Sarem students win at least one scholarship
UCD Global Excellence alone can waive 50โ100% of tuition. GoI-IES adds โฌ10,000 living costs. Sarem applies for every award you qualify for alongside your university application โ no extra cost, no extra work for you.
What happens after your MS in Ireland
The 2-year Stamp 1G is the floor, not the ceiling. Many Indian MS graduates in Ireland transition to employer-sponsored Critical Skills permits well within their first year after graduation. It depends entirely on the individual โ your field, your network, and how quickly the right employer finds you.
When you complete your Level 9 MSc in Ireland, you apply for Stamp 1G โ the Third Level Graduate Scheme. No job offer needed. You can work for any employer at any salary for up to 24 months.
You must apply within six months of receiving your final results, while still holding a valid Stamp 2 and still in Ireland. Applications go through the Irish Immigration Service portal online. The grant is initially 12 months, renewable for a further 12.
Stamp 1G time does not count toward “reckonable residence” for PR. Only Stamp 1 or Stamp 4 (via a work permit) builds toward PR eligibility. The Critical Skills permit threshold was updated to โฌ44,000/year effective 1 January 2026. Source: Irish Immigration Service Delivery.
Why choose Sarem for your MS in Ireland?
Any consultant can submit your application. Very few can tell you honestly whether your profile qualifies, which scholarship you’ll win, and what to do when things don’t go to plan. Sarem does all of this โ and charges you nothing.
Honest university advice โ not commission-based
Most consultants recommend universities that pay the highest commissions. Sarem recommends the university that matches your profile, career target, and budget โ even if that means a lower-ranked institution or a different country entirely. 78% of our students win at least one scholarship because we apply to the right places.
SOP written and reviewed multiple times
Your Statement of Purpose is your application. Sarem doesn’t fill out a template โ we write your SOP from scratch based on your specific background, target programme, and career story. We review it multiple times and coach you for the Campus France or university interview where required.
Every scholarship applied โ automatically
Most students don’t realise they qualify for 2โ3 scholarships simultaneously. Sarem identifies every eligible award โ UCD Global Excellence (50โ100% waiver), GoI-IES (โฌ10,000 stipend), university merit awards โ and prepares your applications alongside your admission file. No extra steps, no extra cost.
Visa preparation that prevents refusals
The most common reason Indian students get Irish visa refusals is bank statement structure โ specifically “funds parking.” Sarem coaches your financial preparation 6 months before you apply. We review every document before it goes in. Applications go in complete โ refusals from missing documents don’t happen.
IRP, arrival, accommodation โ after you land
Sarem’s support doesn’t stop at the visa. We help you register your Irish Residence Permit, guide your accommodation search, connect you with the Irish Indian community, and help with part-time job guidance once you arrive. You don’t navigate Ireland alone.
Offices in Chennai and Ireland โ always reachable
Sarem is based in both Chennai and Ireland. That means you work with consultants who have personally navigated the Irish system, know the universities from the inside, and are reachable when it matters. No call centres, no bots โ direct access to the people making decisions on your file.
Free for all students โ always has been.
Sarem charges students nothing for application, SOP, scholarships, or visa guidance
Our revenue comes from university partnerships with private institutions โ not from you. For Irish public universities where we receive no commission, a processing fee applies. In all cases, our incentive is your outcome โ not the institution that pays us most.

“Sarem Education is an outstanding consultancy with exceptional expertise. They provided prompt support throughout the entire process, helping me find the best university aligned with my career aspirations. Their team is genuine, always accessible, and truly dedicated.”

Ireland wins on three specific factors: 1-year course duration (UK is also 1 year but significantly more expensive; Canada is 2 years); lower total cost than the UK with comparable employer quality in Dublin; and the Critical Skills PR pathway (2 years to PR) is faster than Canada’s Express Entry (typically 3+ years). The right answer depends on your specific field, budget, and career goal โ Sarem will give you an honest comparison for your situation.
No โ Irish immigration rules do not allow dependant family members to join Stamp 2 student visa holders for standard taught Master’s programmes.
